The Chrysotriklinos was built in the time of Justin II (565–578) and served as one of the main ceremonial halls of the Great Palace. There are no remains of it, but we know from the sources that it was octagonal and had a dome. It thus resembled the justinianic churches of Saints Sergios and Bacchos, of St. Michael on the Anaplus (Bosphorus), of St. John of Hebdomon (Bakirköy) or San Vitale in Ravenna, which served as a model for this reconstruction.
